John Choe new IM Residency Program Director
[John Choe]We are thrilled to announce that Dr. John Choe, associate professor (General Internal Medicine) will be our next program director of the Seattle Internal Medicine Residency Program, effective Sept. 1. He is currently the associate program director for curriculum development and evidence-based medicine teaching for the IM Residency Program.
Choe received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the UW in 2000 as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar, and received a master's degree from the UW School of Public Health.
During his first decade on faculty, he focused on community-based participatory research addressing chronic disease disparities in Asian immigrant communities, before pivoting to a focus on resident education in 2011. As associate program director, he has guided the didactic curriculum for the residency program and had key roles in developing the residency program evaluation system. He has been a national leader in these areas, and for the past three years has served as an elected council member for the national Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine.
"Please join me in welcoming John into this new position," said Department Chair Dr. Barbara Jung. "I believe his vision will propel our residency program forward and I am excited to partner with him! I also want to thank Ken Steinberg for his outstanding leadership as program director for the last 17 years, as well as the residency and DOM community for their engagement in this important search."
