The College of the Environment has posted an advertisement for a *Graduate
Student Assistant (hourly position) to coordinate the annual Environmental
Career Fair*. They need additional capacity to manage this event this year
during staff transitions. Details below!

*Title: Environmental Career Fair Coordinator *



*Position: Graduate Student Assistant Position, Hourly*



*Department:* Academic Affairs/College of the Environment



*Appointment Dates:* October 17, 2022 (or earlier – exact start date
negotiable) through March 15, 2023 (exact end date negotiable)



*Hours per Week: *variable, up to 19.5 max



*Hourly rate*: $25

*Description: *

Primary responsibility for organizing the *College of the Environment,
Environmental Career Fair *(late February 2023)*. *Targeting undergraduate
students, and open to all UW students and alumni, the Environmental Career
Fair

is an opportunity for hundreds of students to explore careers in
environmental fields, including Earth, Atmosphere and Marine Sciences,
Natural Resources, Conservation, and Engineering. The fair features dozens
of employers from the nonprofit, government and private sectors.



*Event Goals: *

- Connect students to internships and job opportunities in environmental
fields.
- Connect environmental employers with highly qualified candidates.
- Increase the College of the Environment as a "brand."



*Duties include:*

- Invite all past employers based on current contact list. Follow-up to
secure attendees for the 2023 event.
- Recruit new employers to participate.
- Coordinate with College of the Environment Corporate and Foundation
Relations staff to invite key college corporate employer partners.
- Respond to employer questions in a timely fashion, soliciting their
advice and input on the event as well.
- Work directly with staff liaison in the UW Center for Careers &
Internships to set up employer registration.
- Manage advertisement of career fair to students, working with CoEnv
Academic Affairs and Marketing Communications teams to create print, web,
email and social media announcements; create student advertisement schedule.
- Review and monitor student registration and session sign-up numbers to
ensure robust attendance, and dial communications up/down accordingly.
- Maintain a current list of registered employers on the CoEnv website.
- Recruit and train ~4 student volunteers to staff the event.
- Update and implement employer and student participant feedback
post-event surveys. Summarize and analyze feedback into a prioritized list
(one-pager) of "to do's" for 2024.

*Work Schedule:* Some in person meetings required; other hours can be
completed remotely, although the expectation is in-person in the Dean's
Office as an interactive component of the AA team. Weekly schedule is
variable, ~8-19.5 hours per week of independent project work. Expect to
work closer to the maximum during the 2-4 weeks surrounding the event.



*Location: *College of the Environment Dean’s Office, Ocean Sciences
Building



*Required Qualifications:*

- General knowledge of environment, sustainability, and conservation
related employers and career pathways.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, verbal and written.
- Highly organized, and able to juggle multiple competing deadlines,
prioritizing needs weekly and occasionally daily. Demonstrated leadership
with event planning and implementation.
- A highly motivated self-starter with an ability to organize and manage
projects, create a flexible workplan and timeline, set and meet goals, make
decisions independently, and respond in a timely and positive fashion to
supervisors and clients (employers, student attendees).
- Web, online and social media savvy; able to create compelling online
and social media event advertisements.
