Hello, everyone!
WE ARE LOOKING FOR SPEAKERS for Husky Math Talks, which is the Husky Math Club's regular (weekly or bi-weekly) lecture series of 30 min-1 hour talks in mathematics, targeted towards a general undergraduate (all class years - first year to senior) audience.
Registration is open to undergraduates of all class years, graduate students, post-doctoral scholars, lecturers, professors, alumni, and industry professionals, especially in research- or mathematics-adjacent positions.
Talks can be about your own original research, exposition of interesting bits of mathematics (anything from a new way of thinking about calculus concepts, to an exposition of a new research paper you found written by someone else), and/or careers, research opportunities, and internships for mathematics students.
Some previous topics have been:
* an introduction to coordinate-free linear algebra (by a high school senior who is now a first-year undergrad at Carnegie Mellon)
* original undergraduate research on machine-learning-informed elevator optimization, with an aside to How To Do Undergraduate Research Without A Faculty Mentor (by a senior at UW)
* original undergraduate research on Waring's problem on Cantor sets (by a senior at UW who is now a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon)
* an introduction to Grothendieck's dessin's d'enfants and Belyi's theorem (by a senior at UW)
* a workshop on getting industry internships as a Mathematics major (by a junior at UW)
If you're interested in signing up, please fill out this quick form: https://forms.gle/bT3JuNandr3nTyi68 [forms.gle]<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://forms.gle/bT3JuNandr3nTyi68__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!ilnQrgOkFn6ncXqJJmIpfP9PzhHQBv63KIepSfgBGvEfwTBIIIkqHrepdLhE9ooyTwrmKb8mxL-tkYCfmzIZML4rEluDbA$>, and be sure to have a preliminary abstract.
For undergraduates, this is a great opportunity to get public speaking and mathematics communication experience, and a talk listed on your CV or resume.
Thank you!
