Sailors!
Hope everyone is Spring Break-maxxing to their heart's content!
With a heavy heart, and effective immediately, I am resigning from my role
as co-Commodore of the Washington Yacht Club.
I stepped into this position to foster a stronger, more sustainable club
where student leadership could thrive. Throughout my term, I have
approached this role with utmost dedication, transparency, and a commitment
to the club’s long-term success. However, it has become evident that a
portion of the club’s leadership, heavily influenced by entrenched legacy
dynamics, operates in a way that is misaligned with my values and at odds
with the kind of environment I aimed to foster. Under these circumstances,
I no longer believe my continued leadership would be productive or
meaningful.
I extend my thanks to many dedicated members who have supported me, and for
the friendships I have built along the way. From late nights in Sieg Hall
to Summer evenings at Friday Social Sails, it’s you all who have made this
job worthwhile. The mission of the club has incredible potential, and I
hope future leaders of the WYC find ways to foster a more sustainable and
supportive environment for student sailing.
Sail on,
*Renee Chien*
Co-Commodore of the WYC, 04/23/24–03/23/25
Washington Yacht Club, the student sailing club at UW
