Employment Period: We aim to hire graduate Teaching Assistants (TAs) to
work on an annual basis (9/16/25 – 6/15/26). To do so, TAs may be
hired to teach
the same class during all three quarters of the year or be hired to teach a
different class each quarter of the year. In some cases, we may need to
hire a TA for one or two quarters only. If needed, we may also hire TAs for
Summer 2025 (6/16/25-8/15/25) from this list.



Position Description: Environmental Studies at the Program on the
Environment is an interdisciplinary program emphasizing undergraduate
education in environmental studies. The courses vary – we suggest you
learn more about these courses by reading the course descriptions here

position description will also vary depending on the course (please see
details below) but the TA will assist the instructor with all duties
related to the teaching of the course.

TA responsibilities include:

Teach 1-3 quiz or lab sections per week, each meeting once a week for
two hours

Evaluate student work


-

Arrange lecture and discussion logistics and activities, and prepare
course materials

Field teaching (ENVIR 100, 240, 280, 301)


-

Weekend Field Trips (ENVIR 240 and ENVIR 280)


-

Drive vehicle on field trips (ENVIR 240, ENVIR 280)


-

Additional course-specific requirements of the instructors



Requirements:

-

academic standing as a UW Graduate Student and eligibility to hold a
Graduate Student Assistantship


-

availability for full appointment timeframe (e.g. full quarter to full
year) and available for the time the course is offered and for the quiz
sections as coordinated by the instructors


-

excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills


-

current driver’s license (ENVIR 240, ENVIR 280)



Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.



Compensation: $2,984 - $3,291/mo, depending on eligibility

This is a GSA position governed by the UAW contract paid in accordance with
TA/RA/SA salary schedules. These rates are subject to bargaining changes
