**Update on this project!**

We've extended the deadline for applications to the end of the month - Tuesday 10/31. As a reminder, the project offers an opportunity to continue work started by past UW students with the Clean Energy Transition Institute's<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cleanenergytransition.org/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!lF4HWRtCmFGJuru4_tzraPWLZclYjAQssVnGbaUG2FYXJMDSJRjID8eeDueW0cPpUU56c7c4RoAdBRY$> (CETI) Northwest Clean Energy Atlas<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cleanenergytransition.org/projects/northwest-clean-energy-atlas__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!lF4HWRtCmFGJuru4_tzraPWLZclYjAQssVnGbaUG2FYXJMDSJRjID8eeDueW0cPpUU56c7c4VYajqh8$>.

The previous message provides more details about potential projects. To reiterate the desired skills, applicants should ideally:

* Have knowledge about or interest in Northwest energy systems
* Proficiency in Python (or R), Tableau, and data analysis/visualization
* Ability to create narratives with data and see creative ways to make the data make sense and come alive for the user

If you are interested in working on this project, please respond (or email pccacorn at uw.edu) with a short statement about your interest/background relevant to the project topics and your CV/resume. If you have any further questions, please contact the ACORN liaison Jacob Cohen (jtcohen at uw.edu<mailto:jtcohen at uw.edu>).

Cheers!
ACORN

Subject: ACORN Project Opportunity with Clean Energy Transition Intstitute

Dear PCC,

Welcome back from a beautiful summer! We are excited to share a new PCC ACORN<https://pcc.uw.edu/research/acorn-program/> opportunity that continues our collaboration with the Clean Energy Transition Institute<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cleanenergytransition.org/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!lF4HWRtCmFGJuru4_tzraPWLZclYjAQssVnGbaUG2FYXJMDSJRjID8eeDueW0cPpUU56c7c4RoAdBRY$> (CETI). CETI is an independent, nonpartisan nonprofit organization working to accelerate an equitable clean energy transition in the Northwest by advancing deep decarbonization strategies. The Institute provides unbiased research and analysis to guide climate and energy policy and a neutral platform to help diverse stakeholders debate and resolve the trade-offs associated with deep decarbonization.

Last year, three UW graduate students completed an ACORN project with CETI to beta test, update, and continue developing the Northwest Clean Energy Atlas<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cleanenergytransition.org/projects/northwest-clean-energy-atlas__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!lF4HWRtCmFGJuru4_tzraPWLZclYjAQssVnGbaUG2FYXJMDSJRjID8eeDueW0cPpUU56c7c4VYajqh8$>. We look forward to continuing our partnership by extending this project with new ACORN volunteers. Below is a description of the proposed project. If you are interested in working on any of the topics below or have further questions about this ACORN project, please respond (or email pccacorn at uw.edu) with a short statement about your interest/background relevant to the project and your CV/resume by Friday October 20, 2023!

Potential CETI Projects:

1. Northwest Clean Energy Atlas
* With the Northwest Clean Energy Atlas<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.cleanenergytransition.org/projects/northwest-clean-energy-atlas__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!lF4HWRtCmFGJuru4_tzraPWLZclYjAQssVnGbaUG2FYXJMDSJRjID8eeDueW0cPpUU56c7c4VYajqh8$>, the Institute aims to aggregate energy data across the four Northwest states and use Tableau’s software to create interactive data visualizations. The Atlas serves as a tool for stakeholders to understand the current energy systems throughout the region and see how they need to change as the region decarbonizes over time. The Atlas currently hosts visualizations that explore greenhouse gas emissions data, energy resources and uses, utility service territories, and energy burden.
* ACORN volunteers will start by updating the Atlas with the latest available data. They will then have the opportunity to create new visualizations that incorporate data from other CETI initiatives or from ideas the students bring.
* There is also potential to incorporate visualizations from CETI's Net Zero Northwest<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.nznw.org__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!lF4HWRtCmFGJuru4_tzraPWLZclYjAQssVnGbaUG2FYXJMDSJRjID8eeDueW0cPpUU56c7c4i0hMNWM$> Project, particularly the Workforce Analysis<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.nznw.org/workforce__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!lF4HWRtCmFGJuru4_tzraPWLZclYjAQssVnGbaUG2FYXJMDSJRjID8eeDueW0cPpUU56c7c4359Ui0M$> results. This phase would likely not start until the ACORN project is underway.
* Desired skills:
* Knowledge about or interest in Northwest energy systems
* Proficiency in Python (or R), Tableau, and data analysis/visualization
* Ability to create narratives with data and see creative ways to make the data make sense and come alive for the user

We look forward to hearing from you!
