Celeste Lee Award
[cid:image019.jpg at 01DA0E6F.6C6D44B0]Congratulations to Glenda Roberts, director of external relations and patient engagement (Nephrology) who is this year's recipient of the Celeste Lee Award<https://bit.ly/3sninGe> for patient activism. This award was established in honor of Celeste Castillo Lee, a longtime advocate for patient-centered care and empowerment. It is the highest honor given by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) to a distinguished kidney patient who exemplifies NKF's mission and Celeste's legacy of putting patients at the center of all aspects of healthcare through their involvement with NKF and community partners.

Call for nominations: William J. Bremner Endowed Mentorship Awards
Nominations are currently open for the William J. Bremner Endowed Mentorship Awards, to honor faculty members for their contribution to the scientific, educational, and patient care missions of the Department of Medicine through exemplary sustained and high impact mentorship. Two awards are given annually to recognize excellence in mentorship. Faculty in all promotion tracks at the rank of associate professor and above are eligible to be nominated. Faculty news
Petter Bjornstad to direct UW Medicine Diabetes Institute
Dr. Petter Bjornstad will be the new director of the UW Medicine Diabetes Institute, [cid:image020.jpg at 01DA0E6F.6C6D44B0] effective May 2024. A pediatric endocrinologist, he is currently an associate professor of pediatrics and medicine at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, where he leads an exceptional bench to bedside research program with an international reputation for innovation exploring the pathophysiologic underpinnings of diabetic kidney disease and optimal treatment strategies to prevent the complications of diabetes across the lifespan.

[cid:image021.jpg at 01DA0E6F.6C6D44B0]Dr. Lindsey Anderson, acting assistant professor (Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine) was presented with an award for receiving a perfect score on her poster presentation "Muscle stimulation for physical function maintenance during hematopoietic stem cell transplantation" at the 7th Cancer Cachexia Meeting in Edinburgh.

Patient Priorities Care
[cid:image022.jpg at 01DA0E6F.6C6D44B0]Dr. Katherine Ritchey, clinical assistant professor (Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine) and associate director for clinical innovation at VA Puget Sound GRECC, showed in a recent Geriatrics study<https://bit.ly/3QISVEE> how a patient-centered approach, Patient Priorities Care<https://bit.ly/45Za5SV> (PPC), is a feasible way to ask what matters in a Veterans Affairs Community Living Center (CLC) or skilled nursing facility.
