Happy First Week of the Spring Quarter! This quarter is starting busy so
we're highlighting some other upcoming great events you won't want to miss!
SEBA's First Tuesday on 4/5 at 6pm

Are you curious if your thesis research can be turned into a company and
wonder where to start and how to make it happen? SEBA is hosting our next
First Tuesday Meeting on April 5th at the HUB 145 featuring a panel of two
scientists, Lindsay Pino (Talus Bio) and David Younger (A-Alpha Bio). They
will share their journeys in starting a startup company based on the
technologies developed during their PhDs. RSVP HERE

Packaged food provided.

Lindsay is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Talus Bio. With
over a decade’s experience in analytical chemistry and computational
biology, she develops technologies for quantitative proteomics. In
particular, at Talus, she's working on the challenges associated with
scaling-up quantitative proteomics experiments. She is directly involved in
a large variety of research projects spanning cancer drug discovery,
molecular mechanisms of aging, epigenetics, and spatiotemporal proteomics.
Outside of research, she's a runner, dog owner, and hiker. She's most at
home in the mountains, especially the Cascade range in the PNW.

David Younger is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer at A-Alpha Bio,
a spinout from the University of Washington's Institute for Protein Design
that uses synthetic biology and machine learning to discover and optimize
high-impact therapeutics. David invented A-Alpha Bio’s AlphaSeq platform
with Scientific Advisors David Baker and Eric Klavins during his PhD in
Bioengineering at UW and spun the company out in 2018. A-Alpha has grown
since then to a team of 25 with funding from pharmaceutical company
partners, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and
the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation - along with institutional investment
from leading VCs.
Buerk Startup Career & Internship Fair (Volunteers Needed)
The Startup Job Fair for Spring 2022 will be on April 6th from 2:30-5:00pm.
Registration is required for this event.

Are you a smart, motivated student interested in working/interning/doing a
project for a startup? Mark your calendars now for the UW Startup Career &
Internship Fair, co-hosted by UW CoMotion and the Buerk Center for
Entrepreneurship. This is a not-to-miss opportunity for current UW students
to network with startup founders and their teams and discover opportunities
to work with an early-stage company to help them ramp up fast. That means
summer or school year paid internships, short-term projects, and/or
full-time positions. Students can help startups get real work done.

Early-stage startups who are looking to have a table at the fair must apply
in advance at this link

to
sign up for an hour or more to help on 4/6. It is a great way to connect
with students directly and get those good, helping students vibes.

By volunteering, you *may* get a t-shirt to wear at the event (still
figuring that one out), snacks at the event, and the general warm, fuzzy
feeling that comes from doing something nice for a co-worker.

Stay tuned for Covid protocols. If you have any questions, please reach
out to Either Caroline Hansen <cshansen at uw.edu> (Co-Motion) or Brittany
Dunlap <dunlap96 at uw.edu> (Buerk Center for Entrepreneurship).
