Howdy sailors,
We hope everyone had a good wind-down from 2024, and is looking forward to
the New Year! Here are some club announcements to help you anticipate 2025
with the WYC.
Renew Your Membership For 2025!
Please renew your membership
<https://washingtonyachtclub.org/about-us/join/> to continue sailing with
us during the Winter Quarter! During our 12/4 General Meeting minutes, Club
members voted to increase our dues to $60/qtr for students and $100/qtr for
associate members, with discounts for yearly memberships. We hope you will
not let the cost of membership deter you from rejoining us. The increase in
dues will go towards boat maintenance and operating costs to ensure that we
can continue to deliver a quality sailing club experience for our members.
A Look Ahead
We’re planning a lot for the Winter Quarter, but here’s a sneak peek for
the first couple weeks of January:
-
Merch Call-For-Designs closing Monday, Jan 6th at 7:30 pm!
Have ideas for merch? Submit them to our Merch Competition form
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScg2go1SrCJQSsHi3yA6NXwBqxbSj7Yh6j_S7RHVZM5dH7XMg/viewform>
for a chance at getting your designs onto future WYC merchandise! Winners
will get a free piece of merch that you helped create!
-
Dinghy Skipper Written Test Session on Wednesday, Jan 8th from 6–7:30pm
If you’re feeling ready to take the Dinghy Skipper Written Test (read:
having Single-/Double-Handed Intermediate strongly recommended), come sit
in for a proctored test to complete your Skipper Rating! Note: this test is
required for the Keelboat Novice rating, so ‘24 KB Novice Cohort pull up!
-
General Meeting on Wednesday, Jan 15th from 6–7:30pm
Come by the General Meeting to hear what the club will be up to for the
Winter Quarter! We will propose some legislative changes, vote on merch
designs for production, provide updates on Ithaka, and announce more club
socials and work parties.

Subject: 🎄This Christmas, Give The Gift Of Sailing At The WYC! 📯
Dear Friends of WYC,
The holiday season is upon us!
And what a year it has been. We provided sailing to 235 club members this
Fall Quarter and have also introduced 438 newcomers to the UW to Union Bay
during our Dawg Daze Open House. We found out the Dock Renovations project
has been delayed 1–3 years, and are eager for more seasons of sailing on
the Bay, Lake Washington, and the Sound. For our fairweathered sailors, the
warm season may be over, but at the WYC we’ve pulled out the wetsuits and
foulies and are anticipating an exciting Winter season.
This Christmas, the Washington Yacht Club leadership is on a mission to
bring the joy of sailing to low-income students at Udub! Our plan for
need-based club dues exemption will only be possible with your support, and
your generosity will make a real difference in lowering students’ barrier
of entry to the sailing scene. Here’s how your monetary contribution can
help our Club:
-
$30 can provide the resources for a free dingy lesson for one passionate
student.
-
$60 opens the door to a whole academic quarter’s worth of participation.
-
$100 can support the yearlong maintenance of one boat, ensuring every
student gets a safe ride. (Let us know if you want to choose which boat
to adopt!)
-
You may also contribute any dollar amount to our New Boat Fund,
Instructors Gratitude Fund, Social Events Fund etc. to take care of the
clubs’ many goals for 2025!
No contribution is too small, and every gift helps us get closer to our
goal of lowering club fees for 20 students.
You can make your tax-deductible donation by:

This Christmas, let us come together to introduce more students to the
world of sailing. Your support means the world to us and is positively
impactful to the students whose lives you’ll touch.
It also takes a lot more than just money to run the WYC and we are always
looking for more people to help out. If you are at all interested in
teaching a class/clinic, running a regatta, helping with
repair/maintenance, or raising money for the club, please either fill out this
form

send an email to contact at washingtonyachtclub.org, or just stop by the docks
and say hi.
Thank you for considering our cause and for being a part of this special
season of giving. We wish you and your loved ones a joyful and blessed
Christmas!
Warm wishes,

That’s it for now, sailors! See you again in the near future, and Happy New
Year.
