From commodore at washingtonyachtclub.org Wed Mar 8 21:40:48 2023 From: commodore at washingtonyachtclub.org (WYC Commodore) Date: Wed Mar 20 10:15:26 2024 Subject: [WYC Announce] Help WYC with the Shell House Interest Survey Message-ID: To all community members of the Washington Yacht Club, Please help us show the club's role down at the waterfront as a sailing community. There is a survey out (closing Friday, March 10th) about the campus community interest in the remodeling of the Shell House down at the waterfront. This survey asks the community what their interest with the space would be for its future. It would be incredibly helpful to get as many responses as possible from those who currently use the waterfront space for the benefit of the student community. Back in the club's early days we built our own sailboats (The Husky) in this space and launched them down the boat ramp. Now a section of the shell house is where we keep our wetsuits, sailboards, and other gear. Other waterfront clubs make use of the Shell House space as well. We can hopefully make a stance for keeping accommodations for club assets. Please take 5 minutes to fill out this survey with what your interest in this space are and your time down at the waterfront either with the club or otherwise. Fair warning, there is no clear submit button on the last page, which is where it asks for any other comments. Clicking next from there is the submit button and you won't be able to go back. We have been proudly serving the student sailing community at the University of Washington since 1948 and would like to take this opportunity to commemorate such a significant milestone with Seattle?s sailing community. We are hosting a reception on April 22, between 1:00 - 5:00 pm at the Seattle Yacht Club (1807 E Hamlin St, Seattle, WA 98112). The event will feature hors d'oeuvres, cash bar, raffle, and a program highlighting the history and accomplishments of the WYC student sailing program. Feel free to come for the whole time or drop-by to say hi. This event is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet new members, encounter fellow sailors, and share in the rich history of our club. We will also be honoring the many alumni who have helped the club through years of sharing their knowledge and experience with aspiring sailors and conducting maintenance of the fleet. RSVP no later than April 19th to confirm your attendance for catering purposes. If you miss the deadline, please still feel encouraged to stop by. All questions may be directed to sailing@uw.ed u. We look forward to celebrating and reminiscing on the memories and milestones of the past 75 years! Please forward this invitation to anyone you think may be interested. Our club relies on many volunteers to help with our lessons, boat maintenance, and a variety of other tasks to keep things running smoothly. Students, please consider sponsoring our volunteers without IMA memberships for a Plus One IMA membership by marking your interest in our sign up form. For those without IMA memberships, we have implemented a matching system that will automatically pair you with someone that expressed interest in sponsoring a Plus One membership. You should both received an email when you are paired and can coordinate a visit to the IMA from there. Remember to check out the lessons page and discord for events that are coming up and we hope to see you on the water soon. --- Dylan Wesen and Peter Correa Co-Commodores Washington Yacht Club commodore@washingtonyachtclub.org Join our Discord community . www.washingtonyachtclub.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you are at all interested in helping the new members find and flourish in the club then please fill out this form or contact us directly. We are also looking for people to host supervised sailing hours (especially to be on-call when the winds are looking good). Unfortunately, all non-student members will need to pair up with a student to get an IMA membership ($80), becoming an instructor will be the fastest way to get this done. The WYC can waive Instructors WYC fees and can discuss the $80, our priority is getting students time on the water. We will most likely reach out to each of you individually to work out details but this will be a great start. If you know anyone else who you think may be available/interested please feel free to contact us or forward them this form directly. Requirements: The requirements for Instructors are a skipper and whaler rating OR two intermediate rated Instructors can co-instruct (with a whaler rating). The requirements for Assistant Instructors are your intermediate ratings. If you have questions about the requirements, please contact us via email, phone, or discord.
