UW Students may sign up for new memberships and renew existing memberships. Please spread the word to students who may be interested in joining the club. Faculty, Staff, or Alumni with current or recently-expired memberships may renew their membership as well. Congratulations to all of the students who are graduating this quarter. We have had several of you ask how to continue as a non-student member of the club after graduating. If your existing quarterly or annual membership is expiring at the end of this quarter, you just need to sign up as a non-student member now instead. If you have an annual membership that expires at the end of Summer, Fall, or Winter quarter, then you will need to select the option on the sign-up form for converting an existing annual student membership to non-student membership. Please contact the Program Director at programdirector@washingtonyachtclub.org if you need help with this sign-up process. The Summer membership sign-up form is available at: https://forms.gle/ogBDayPTLdrcQ7F16 --- We currently have the opportunity to plan events to sail all of our boats on Tuesdays, and to sail boats moored alongside the keelboat dock on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. *We're in need of additional help* to make the most out of our Tuesday dinghy sailing opportunities from Instructors, Chiefs, and Ratings Examiners (a paid position). Please reach out if you are able to help. For all upcoming events, keep an eye out on our Lessons & Events page, where events are posted as they become available: http://www.washingtonyachtclub.org/lessons. You can also hear about these and additional sailing opportunities on our Discord . We have started holding our weekly* Friday Night Social Sailing* event, which runs from 5 pm to Sunset. Sign up by this evening if you would like to join. If you already have an intermediate dinghy or catamaran rating and would like to take a boat out next Tuesday, sign up by Sunday. Also, information about additional windsurfing lessons will be available soon, so keep your eyes out for that announcement. Instructors are exempt from paying membership dues during quarters in which they teach. We'd love to have a current member or someone else familiar with the club take on the role, so if you are looking for a part-time job or know someone who is, please take a look at the posting and consider sharing it. The Program Director is critically important for the club's continued operations, so you would have the opportunity to make a huge positive impact on the club, while meeting a ton of new and old club members and getting paid while doing so. Thanks! Anthony and Peter --- The posting: *Program Director of the Washington Yacht Club, the recreational sailing club at UW* Role Description: The Washington Yacht Club is the recreational sailing club at the University of Washington. We are a Registered Student Organization and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with over seventy years of history and well over a hundred club members. You can learn more about the club at http://www.washingtonyachtclub.org We are currently seeking a new Program Director, who is in charge of communications with club members and the administrative tasks necessary to keep the club operating smoothly. The Program Director is often the first person that prospective club members meet and communicate with, so friendliness and a strong desire to help others are critical for the role. The Program Director schedules their own office hours at the HUB and has the sole responsibility for a number of important tasks to be performed outside of the office, so the ability to work independently and complete tasks promptly and thoroughly without direct supervision is needed. The role requires about five hours of time commitment per week, with the possibility of additional tasks and responsibilities to be provided by the officers of the club, up to a maximum of ten hours per week. Prior experience with sailing and the Washington Yacht Club are not required, but the ideal candidate would be someone who is interested in getting involved with the club beyond the duties of this position. If desired, you may send any questions or inquiries about the position to commodore@washingtonyachtclub.org before applying. Key Responsibilities: - Communicate with prospective club members and current club members through email, Discord, and phone, responding to any inquiries about the club that are received. - Process club membership sign-ups and renewals, and maintain the club roster in our online database. - Host Office Hours at our office in the HUB several times a week in order to chat with prospective club members, assist with membership sign-ups, and administer written sailing tests. - Attend club meetings and take meeting minutes. - Assist the club?s commodores and other officers with their duties. Requirements: - A friendly personality and a strong desire to help others. - Highly organized with an acute attention to detail. - Ability to work well with a team. - Excellent communication skills. - Experience with Excel / Google Sheets and their various functions. - Currently a University of Washington Seattle campus student. - A willingness to commit to the role for two or more quarters. - An interest in getting involved with the club beyond the duties of the position is highly preferred. --- Anthony Au and Peter Correa Co-Commodores Washington Yacht Club commodore@washingtonyachtclub.org Support us through AmazonSmile . If you have a membership that expires this Spring Quarter, you will have to renew your membership to participate in club activities starting next week. Our Summer Quarter Membership Form is available at: https://forms.gle/ogBDayPTLdrcQ7F16 It was explained to us by UW Recreation that students who are not enrolled in Summer classes but who will be returning as students in the Fall will be waived from paying the $50 quarterly Waterfront Access Fee that is required by UW Recreation if they either provide a screenshot showing that they are registered for Fall Quarter or purchase Summer IMA membership for $70. If you are signed up as a student member for Summer Quarter and are not taking classes, please contact programdirector@washingtonyachtclub.org to provide proof of Fall Quarter registration, purchase of Summer IMA membership, arrange payment for the $50 WAC Fee, or otherwise work on resolving this requirement. The full Summer Quarter policies are included below. Lastly, the minutes from this past Wednesday's General Meeting are attached. Thanks and have a great weekend, Anthony --- *UW Recreation's Waterfront Access Policies for Summer Quarter:* Students who are not enrolled in classes for Summer Quarter likely do not have full IMA membership for the summer, and so they are not exempt from paying the $50 WAC Fee unless they perform additional steps. As required by UW Recreation, there are three ways for a person to retain student status: 1) By being enrolled in summer classes or a graduate program. 2) By providing proof (a screenshot) of their fall registration. 3) By purchasing a summer Recreation membership for the IMA. You can check if you hold IMA membership by logging in to https://reg.recreation.uw.edu/home/signin?redirect=%2Fmembership and seeing whether your Eligibility is listed as Student and that Summer Quarter is listed under My Memberships. It would say Membership Type: SuS, Start Date: Mon, Jun 6 2022, Expiry Date: Sun, Sep 18 2022. If you do not see Membership Type SuS when logging in at the link above, then you will have to either provide proof of your fall registration or purchase a summer Recreation membership for the IMA. --- Anthony Au and Peter Correa Co-Commodores Washington Yacht Club commodore@washingtonyachtclub.org Support us through AmazonSmile . Signups close around 6pm the Wednesday prior (Tonight I will keep it up till midnight). Plans are currently being made for a reoccurring Women & Marginalized Genders (WMG) Sailing Night, more information should be released soon. *Novice Classes:* We should be starting to have regular FJ classes from 12:00-5:00 on Tuesdays, which will be the best way to learn sailing fundamentals and start getting ratings. Signups for Tuesday events close around 6pm the Sunday before. Daniel Oliver has been running Sailboard Lessons out of Sail Sand Point, and there are few new ones up on the website. Space is limited so sign up now! *Ithaka (Sign up by Midnight Tonight):* I have attached a note from David Swartz regarding some of the work he would like to get done on Ithaka this weekend. To incentivize participation, there are plans for a post work party Mexican themed potluck dinner on Saturday along with a swim (either off Ithaka or at Cozy Cove). *Fourth of July (Sign up by Saturday):* The plan is to sail around Lake Washington and Lake Union, raft-up, BBQ, and see the fireworks at Gasworks park at 10:15pm from the boat! If you plan on bringing a guest, please fill this form out: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfPXN-iRttIhM3wkuW-GZI8Z9QTzIka9tqC7UZulOH4O7195w/viewform?usp=sf_link Details are subject to change! Members will meet at the WAC or can meet us either at Ivar's or another soon-to-be disclosed location. *Inboard Keelboats:* Nightshade and Talaria have not been going out very much and could use a little attention. The website is still down, however, if you are interested and rated in reserving either boat (including longer trips) contact me or one of the other officers.
