MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -
Bachelor's degree in fisheries science, quantitative science or related field. Experience in fisheries management.

The Quinault Department of Fisheries is seeking a motivated, organized, skilled and personable individual to provide technical expertise for Quinault management of salmon and steelhead stocks on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula. Required skills include data management, data analysis, quantitative science and statistical literacy. Responsibilities include, monitoring and evaluation of fish runs and their status, forecasting salmonid run returns, evaluation of fisheries performance, preparing pre-season plans, producing in-season management recommendations for Quinault policy representatives and preparing fishery management plans and interagency agreements.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE -
* Monitoring and evaluating the performance of salmon and steelhead fisheries
* Evaluating the status and strength of fish runs
* Developing criteria and procedures for forecasting, measuring and evaluating status of fisheries resources.
* Preparing pre-season estimates, harvest management plans and reports.
* Providing in-season harvest management recommendations to Quinault policy representatives.
* Preparing Fishery Management Plans and Interagency Agreements.
* Checking and analyzing catch sampling data.
* Developing pre-season estimates, and writing pre-season management reports.
* Developing and applying in-season run size estimation models.
* Compiling post-season run size, harvest, and stock assessment information.
* Preparing and writing in-season regulations.
* Using principles of quantitative science as they apply to salmon and steelhead management.
* Mathematical analysis of trends and developments in fisheries of interest to the Quinault Indian Nation.
* Providing technical support to policy representatives of the Quinault Indian Nation.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS -
Required Qualifications -
* M1 - Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Quantitative Science, or other closely related field.
* Demonstrated skill in use of MS Office and/or Google apps including Access, Excel, Word and Outlook.
* Ability to work effectively in an organization as part of a team. Ability to both lead and follow direction.
* Well-developed communication skills and ability to appropriately, and effectively, interact with peers, decision makers (policy), public and others.
Additional Milestone Qualifications - (higher salary levels)
* M2 - Master's degree in Fisheries, Quantitative Science or closely related field OR 2 years' experience in fisheries management
* M3 - 5 years' experience in fisheries management. MS degree Fisheries, Quantitative Science or closely related field to substitute for 2 years. PhD in Fisheries, Quantitative Science or closely related field to substitute for 5 years' experience.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS -
* Demonstrated skill in the use of statistical software and open-source coding platforms (e.g. R, GitHub).
* 5+ years of experience in fisheries management.
* Firm understanding of Pacific Northwest salmon and steelhead fisheries.
* Experience working on fisheries management with federal, state and tribal governments.
HYBRID WORK OPTION -
The candidate will be allowed to work remotely when feasible but must visit Quinault Administration Complex in Taholah, partner and agency offices and other scheduled, in-person meetings as required. Virtual meetings are encouraged for technical and other discussions when in-person attendance is not required. This position must be available to visit and work from the Taholah offices as required to meet the obligations of updating and receiving direction from supervisors, policy bodies and leadership of the Quinault Indian Nation. The position will have an office assigned at the Quinault Department of Fisheries for hybrid or full-time use.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS -
The candidate should be capable of the following:
* operating a motor vehicle for commuting to the office and traveling to meetings
* performing typical office tasks including using computers and communication equipment
DESIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES -
* walking in rough terrain and wading in fast-flowing streams and rivers for up to 5 miles per day.
* Operating non-motorized boats in rivers and lakes.
* Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS -
* Must have a valid Washington State Driver's license or be able to obtain one within the first month of employment.
* Must have and maintain the ability to be insured under the Quinault Indian Nation automobile insurance.
* Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
* Able to comply with the Federal Drug Free Workplace Act.
* Must be able to conduct domestic and international travel.
