is near ubiquitous -- just look for the tell-tale black boxes in garages, outside grocery stores, next to your neighbor’s shed, etc. One of these types of poisons is an anticoagulant, which means rats eat it, then wander around outside for a week and slowly
die of internal bleeding or get picked off by a predator who thought they were lucky to find a slow-moving treat. These toxins are then ingested by wildlife and pets and who knows where else the poison is going once it enters our environment. It’s cruel and
dangerous. And, what’s more, there are real alternatives. Thanks to Seattle legislators Rep. Shaun Scott and Rep. Julia Reed (and others across the state) there is now a bill to begin addressing this problem. HB2516 will put a temporary moratorium on using
these rodenticides while more research is conducted about the impacts and alternatives.</span>
