   <span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;">Years ago, Mary posted a movement of about 70 vultures (she counted them) heading south by her home. I saw her account in real time and raced out to Totten Inlet, west of Olympia. After a good wait I saw vultures arring from the northwest and my count was only one bird different than what Mary had reported.</span>

   <span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;">In the years since then, I have watched for migrating vultures there during spring and fall. In most years I see definite migratory movements along the same pathways. In one year I watched as a group of vultures veered eastward. I followed them by vehicle most of the way to Olympia before they veered south.</span>

   <span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;">I think vultures have fairly distinct pathways they use at least in some years and in some parts of the state. The vultures that Mary has observed and that I see at Totten could be heading south after crossing from Vancouver Island. It makes sense that they follow Hood Canal (roughly) while traveling south, before veering southeastward to then follow the Puget Trough south toward Portland. I have seen large numbers south of Olympia, obviously on their way. Others have made similar observations.</span>

   <span style="font-family: helvetica; font-size: 12pt;">I agree that it can be difficult to discriminate between migrants and busy foragers, but in some cases it can be reasonable clarity about migrants when there is a pattern over multiple years.</span>
