<div>Thanks so much to all the great observers for vulture sightings; September is always a good turkey vulture month. Jim Danzenbaker's reports from Woodland Bottoms the past two years always reminds me that these great birds are doing pretty well. 28 September was always our big date when I was out at Salt Creek. Watching 1,300+ turkey vultures flying into land off the Strait of Juan de Fuca is one of my best memories. I wish Woodland Bottoms were closer!</div>

<div>Following are the turkey vulture reports for September 2023 with some extras from August. Late reports are always welcome and many thanks for those who include e-bird reports.</div>

<div><u>AUGUST</u></div>
<div>22 -- One turkey vulture south of Tokeland on Route 101 at 12:15.</div>
<div>30 -- Three at the Everett Sewage Ponds at 10:30.</div>
<div>31 -- Four at Hayton Preserve at 1:15.</div>
<div>*correction for 8-31 on the August report, the town should be "Greenwater" not Greenwood.</div>

<div><u>SEPTEMBER</u></div>
<div>02 -- One turkey vulture at Mounain View 4x4 Trailhead (Migration Corner), eastern Clark County., cloudy.
<div>04 -- A mini-kettle of four soaring over Trafton Trailhead Park east of Arlington, ca. 11:00.</div>
<div>08 -- Six turkey vultures NE of Sequim at about 11:30.</div>
<div>11 -- One at Ebey Waterfront at 12:30.</div>
<div>12 -- 20 Turkey Vultures on the ground on the far side of the river at Washougal Waterfront Park, Clark County; 6 (or more) turkey vultures at St. Cloud Park on Highway 14 in Skamania County.

<div>14 -- Two at Oyhut Wildlife Area, one with a red patagial tag (reported to Dan Varland) feeding near a wetlands.</div>

<div>15 -- 2 turkey vultures soaring over Anderson Lake SP at 12:32, sunny, clear skies, temp 69F.</div>
<div>20 -- One at Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually NWR, Thurston County, cloudy/sunny; one at Fir Island, Skagit County at 11:17.</div>
<div>21 -- beginning ca.13:00 over Washtucna, Adams County, a large, mixed flock of turkey vultures and broad-winged hawks were seen. Near Bassett Park, 70 turkey vultures flew in from the east and began circling. Buteos in the flock were identified as broadwings. In 20 minutes 63 vultures flew southwest incl. 4 broadwings. Turkey vultures continued into the town and by 16:00 40 were roosting in a large willow with others nearby. One broadwing roosted at Snyder Park; 164 turkey vultures at the north end of Woodland Bottoms, Cowlitz County.</div>
<div>22 -- continuing from above, heavy fog this morning, but birds were moving by 10:00. 30 turkey vultures and 4 broadwings drifted south, another kettle formed of one redtail and seven broadwings heading southeast.Two more broadwings were seen and probably more turkey vultures.</div>
<div>22 -- One at Milltown, Skagit County at 12:37; 5 turkey vultures circling in a kettle over the west side of Center Road 3 miles NE of Quilcene at 1145 with hazy skies, temp 66F.</div>
<div>24 -- Six turkey vultures over Harborview Park in Marysville; 14 vultures standing, loafing or scavenging fish carcasses at Arena Del Mar, Grayland at 08:00, overcast w/light SE wind.</div>
<div>25 -- Four kettling over I-5/mp.98 (south of Olympia) at 10:00 with several singles between there and the Oregon border.</div>
<div>26 -- Six turkey vultures at the north end of Woodland Bottoms.</div>
<div>27 -- Eleven turkey vultures at Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually NWR on a rain/sun/windy day; two seen later in the day heading south into gusty headwinds/rain.</div>

<div>28 -- Twenty-two seen ca.1145 low over Belfair coming from the N/NE following Hwy 3 south, two more kettles seen soon after brought the total to 44-45; one turkey vulture flying over the ridgeline above Alki; 85 turkey vultures seen at the Theler Wetlands, Mason County; 22 at the north end of Woodland Bottoms.</div>
<div>29 -- Two groups of nine turkey vultures each over Meadowbrook Pond at 15:20 and 15:50 at medium height.</div>
<div>29 -- 1,390 turkey vultures at Woodland Bottoms, Dike Road north end, cloudy w/first NW winds for a week, 09:45>, 10 osprey plus other raptors seen also.</div>
