The results of the JBLM Eagle’s Pride GC birdwalk on Thursday are below. After our walk, I thought about the birds we tallied, and then thought again that I too often focus on the birds we see and not enough about the folks that attend
this monthly walk. We have a core group of about 12 from the South Sound area, but this month we also had folks from Seattle and Redmond make the trip, for a total of 21 of us this month. Because of the terrain and sometimes narrow path we follow, the group
gets strung out, with small groups of folks talking with each other, sharing experiences, sightings, etc., which, to me, is one of most enjoyable parts of birding. Certainly, we’re here for the birds, but the social aspects of birding, to me, rank up there
with what we observe. When I think about it, birding is much more than just ticking off species on a checklist.
