<div dir="ltr"><div dir="auto">Tweets - Perhaps the last nice day for a long while, who knows. Temps were in the low 40's, with only a few wisps of fog, no wind, and no precipitation. And it was birdy.<div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Highlights:</div><div dir="auto"><ul><li>Trumpeter Swan - Flock of 16 flying west, calling. First of year (<b>FOY</b>)<br></li><li>American Wigeon - A few on the lake</li><li>Green-winged Teal - One at Rowing Club, First of Fall (<b>FOF</b>)</li><li>Common Merganser - Male at weir (<b>FOF</b>)<br></li><li>Western Screech-Owl - One heard pre-dawn<br></li><li>Great Horned Owl - Matt heard one near the concert venue pre-dawn<br></li><li>Northern Saw-whet Owl - Matt heard two predawn (<b>FOY</b>)<br></li><li>Varied Thrush - One near mansion (<b>FOF</b>)<br></li><li>American Pipit - Several flyovers, but we've yet to see one on the ground this fall</li><li>White-throated Sparrow - Brian had one, East Meadow</li></ul></div><div dir="auto">We saw a large flock of birds well out on the lake, and I was able to scope them after the walk. Turned out to be a couple of hundred(!) BUFFLEHEAD (<b>FOF</b>), a handful of LESSER SCAUP (<b>FOF</b>), at least 4 WESTERN GREBE (<b>FOY</b>), and a few wigeon. There were also a couple of HORNED GREBE and a CALIFORNIA GULL.<br></div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div>If you're counting, that's <b>3</b> <b>FOY </b>plus <b>5 FOF!</b></div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div>We had a NINE SPARROW DAY, which is all of the likely species.</div><div dir="auto"><br></div><div dir="auto">Besides the fairly small numbers I've noted for various dabbling ducks, we also had an abundance of flocks of unidentified ducks overhead all morning.
