Alas, nevermore. Actually, the first raven I ever saw was when I was a teenager hiking in Shenandoah National Park just a few hours south of western Maryland. Oh how fun it is that birds factor into some many areas of our life. 5 NFL teams have bird names for mascots.

Ravens (the ones with the wedge-shaped tails) are actually quite uncommon in the Baltimore area, but more regular in the Maryland mountains a couple of hours to the west. The football team is named for the eponymous raven in the Edgar Allan Poe story. Poe lived in Baltimore for a while.
