The Mt Rainier White-tailed Ptarmigan has been proposed for federal listing
as a threatened species. Terry Frederick, US Fish and Wildlife, will
discuss the natural history and habitat needs of this alpine grouse that
remains at high elevations year-round.  She will describe some of their
unique adaptations to cold and snowy winters, and describe why they and
their alpine habitat are particularly sensitive to a warming climate.  This
