Of course, you're not required to use the A. O. S. (nee A. O. U.) common names. They're common names. See, for example,
Robins on eggs for brood #3, House Finches on #2, despite one of the latter's eggs apparently having been knocked out -- clumsiness of young parents? And I had my first smacking by a protective crow this morning (beware near 11th and John) -- definitely caught me off guard.
