Tweeters,
A bit of a breeze at times (8-10 kts), but overall a fine day for birding at JBLM's Eagles Pride GC for the four of us: no rain, mostly sunny, and temps in the mid-40's (degF). Three of us layered up with full rain gear, but Jon A dressed to the "kilt" and was quite comfortable. Two large mixed-species flocks were fun to sort through. The last one included our bird-of-the-day: A female TOWNSEND'S WARBLER. Other highlights were mostly in numbers: 85 DARK-EYED JUNCO; 17 BUFFLEHEAD; 22 VARIED THRUSH; 66 PINE SISKIN; AND 11 RING-NECKED DUCK. A BALD EAGLE was spotted again this month carrying nesting material. Two eagles were seen later, which might be the pair that are nest-building in a tree next to the 7th tee on the Green Course - noted previously last month. Only one AMERICAN ROBIN today.
The only mammal spotted today was a black-tailed deer.
Merry Christmas, and hope you get out and do lots of birding in 2021!
The JBLM Eagles Pride GC birders meet the third Thursday of each month at 8:00AM. Starting point is Bldg # 1514, Driving Range Tee, Eagles Pride Golf Course, I-5 Exit 116, Mounts Road Exit. Upcoming walks include the following (2021):
* January 21
* February 18
* March 18
Anyone is welcome to join us! (Currently, wear a mask and maintain social distancing. In addition, we're limited to 5 birders in each grouping. We'll divide the overall party size accordingly.)
