Late afternoon today in gorgeous light I was treated to glassy water at
Eddie's Burnout Corral. In the foreground were Northern Rough-winged
Swallows joining the mix of Tree and Violet-green. In the background were
calling Greater Yellowlegs. In the glow, standing in their reflections, was
a pair of Black-necked Stilts, she on her right leg and he on his left, a
peaceful scene.

The Burnout Corral is along Pumphouse Road about 1.8 miles from Highway 97, a
bit east of Old Goldendale Road. The waters there are Snake Creek.
Toppenish Creek flows parallel to the north, with Toppenish National
Wildlife Refuge and Yakama Nation land between the two.

Please respect property rights, hinted at by the fences there.

The Black-necked Stilts and Rough-winged Swallows were year birds for me,
but the dessert course was the beautiful scene.

Good Birding
