The road is passable with 2wd and no real ruts to talk about. But the snow is in places 10" deep and is slowly melting. The run off has taken out the trail at Umptanum Creek. Time will tell what's left after the Spring melt has finished. Some shaded parts of the road does have compacted ice and slush where the sun can break through. On the subject of birds. I only saw 2 Quail flying across the road. Not the usual Chicago call so common along the road. Large flocks of mostly Cassin's Finch made most of the days sound track with backing vocals from Evening Grosbeaks.Nice view of a Mountain Chickadee along with 2 Pygmy Nuthatch's looking for a nesting site. No Sage Thrashers and did not see the Say's Phoebe at its usual nesting site or any Lewis Woodpeckers. No Owls, but saw some Red tail Hawks, 2 Am Kestrels and a lovely Male Marsh Harrier. So it still is a beautiful place to visit but still aways from being snow free. Stop and smell the Sage brush. Mark Girling.
Woodridge.
