Tweets,

Yesterday 35 of us enjoyed a pleasant day at Nisqually. There was no
rain and little wind until we got out on the estuary dike. We had a
5.1 low tide at 10:45 so there was lots of mud in the reclamation
area.

Highlights included a pair of WOOD DUCKS, the first of the year, at
the visitor center overlook and an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD nest found in
the orchard, and FOY RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, also in the orchard.

I missed the ANNA'S nest and the fly by of the RUFOUS so I can't help
on the location of the nest. Nest week I'll find it.

We did locate a GREAT HORNED OWL, but it was roosting in the alders
behind the beaver dam. It appears that the nest failed this year as it
is abandoned. Last year there was a late nest that was successful so
lets hope that is the case this year. Also. it appears the SAW-WHET
OWL has moved on. It hasn't been seen in a couple of weeks.

There is a surprising number of waterfowl species still around, just
not many of any species. I had 16 species with many pairs on the
refuge. The WOOD DUCKS were new for the year.

I'm sure Jon Anderson's ebird report included things I missed that
will ring the species count up.

For the day I had 49 species and now have 77 for the year. Mammals
seen were cottontail rabbit and muskrat.

Until next week....
