hello everyone,

i write a lot about color in birds, but i don't write about how birds
perceive color nearly as often. to remedy this, i wrote a piece about a
recent NATURE paper by a team at Duke University that looks at how zebra
finches perceive red versus orange coloration. it's really an elegant
sensory ecology and behavior study, and it touches on linguistics and human
psychology as well as evolution and neurobiology.

i hope you find this piece enlightening as well as entertaining, and that
you take a few minutes to share it with your friends and family on social
media and twitter.

thank you.
