Great weekend for casual birding on Bainbridge Island. Friday 4/20 had eyes only (no binos) great view of a flying pelagic cormorant at the ferry terminal as well as pigeon guillemots in the water- additional ferry birds include European starling, rock dove (pigeon), belted kingfisher, DC cormorants, Canada geese, and many large unidentified gulls (likely glaucous-winged). Friday night heard a barred owl from the yard and had a fly over barn owl at about 9:30pm near the gas station/Thai food restaurant on Miller Rd/Fletcher Bay Rd. Saturday morning continued sights and sounds of the nesting ravens near my house (south end of BI near Bill Point) - including ravens chasing, on separate occasions, a coopers hawk, bald eagle through the trees (wicked sight) , and couldn't tell who was chasing who but crows got involved as well. Additional Saturday yard birds include: stellers jay, spotted towhee, pacific wrens (singing all day), song sparrow, red-breasted sapsuckers (excavating nest cavity in yard- same snag as last year), bewicks wrens, orange crowned warbler, American robins, dark-eyed juncos, black-capped and chestnut backed chickadee, pine siskins(heard only), brown creeper, possible/likely ruby crowned kinglet (heard only), pileated woodpecker, Anna's hummingbird, rufus hummingbird, American goldfinch (heard only), yellow-rumped warblers (heard only). Sunday had a similar mix of yard birds with the addition of a new one to add to the list- Townsend's Solitaire- multiple open perched views throughout the evening. It was a good weekend to be outside.
