Headed west this morning to see what we could find. On Byrnes Rd west of
Touchet a young FERRUGINOUS HAWK was perched in a field that had just
been criss-crossed with rodent poison - so many farmers are doing this now.
At Madam Dorion Park Mike birded west to the river, ML birded east of
the fishing access on the Walla Walla River. Both of us had great views
of 2 HARRIS'S SPARROWS at the same time - 4 at once! Also present were 2
WHITE-THROATED, 1 FOX, many WCrowns and a Golden-crowned was seen by
others in the same area.
At the Dodd Rd Blood Ponds were 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 Least
Sandpipers, 21 Dunlin and 15 Killdeer. On Dodd road in 1 mile were 4
MERLIN - including 1 "black" Merlin. Had 2 other Merlin earlier in
Lowden and on the poop piles.
Off Peninsula HMU were 4 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and 2 Common Loons. 140
Tundra Swans out there and 3 TRUMPETER SWANS at Casey pond. Couldn't
find any scoters.
Good birding, M&ML
