Both the Rock Sandpiper and Yellow-billed Loon cooperated this afternoon at Rosario Head! The loon provided incredible close views from the beach, and the sandpiper was feeding on the tidal rocks right below the cliff for about 20 minutes before relocating to the hidden rocky shore along the NW edge of the Head.
The best time to go for the sandpiper seems to be after the peak high tide when it starts going down; at high tide the birds roost, and at low tide they have a much wider area to roam.
I also noted large numbers of Red-throated Loons towards Deception Pass; there must have been upwards of 300 stretched across the water.
