Here are the preliminary results for the 34th Edmonds CBC conducted last Saturday December 16. The weather was good - above freezing, calm, and only a short period of light drizzle in the morning. We had 87 field participants in 36 teams, and a record 95 feeder counters at 73 locations. The boat party had a good day on the water and 5 crow counting teams surveyed 15,064 crows as they headed to their night roost. We had a great pot-luck with Linda's homemade bread and soup afterwards.
The preliminary tally shows 121 species vs the 10-year average of 119, and 55,226 individuals vs a 10-year average of 42k. We had an additional 3 count week birds. The only unusual species were 4 Common Redpoll, and a Swamp Sparrow.
We had high counts of: Snow Goose (5,250), Red-Throated Loon (24), Common Loon (26), Horned Grebe (249), Cooper's Hawk (17), Black Turnstone (8), Marbled Murrelet (25), Great Horned Owl (9), Anna's Hummingbird (244), Downy Woodpecker (72), Hairy Woodpecker (37), Norther Flicker (254), Pileated Woodpecker (49), Peregrine Falcon (4), Common Raven (5), and Red-breasted Nuthatch (105). Notable misses included: Greater Scaup, Herring Gull, and Iceland (Thayer's) Gull.
Final results and a more detailed analysis will be available on the Pilchuck Audubon wed site in a couple of weeks. Thanks to everyone who participated.
