Twas the day before the dark and stormy night.... Wednesday was a fine fall
morning, with temps starting in the mid-30s but rising over 30 degrees by
mid-day, with calm winds and clear skies. Activity was frenetic right after
dawn but plenty of action continued throughout the morning. Highlights
included some of the new arrivals at the park.

Cackling Goose - not common in the park, but there were 3 small fly-over
flocks of Cacklers
Band-tailed Pigeon - just a few, not the few dozen of days before reported
by Jan Bragg
Hermit Thrush - half a dozen, all making their 'chuff' call and mostly
Western Meadowlark - first of the fall, actually first of the year!
Purple Finch - a couple giving their 'cheerio' call

The hawthorn and madrona berry crops are abundant this fall and several
species were partaking, including Am Robin, Sp Towhee, Cedar Waxwing and
House Finch. In addition, some House Finch were feeding on the seeds of the
few Oregon Ash present in the park.

For the day, 56 species.
