Heard my first Varied Thrush of the season this morning coming up out of the
Fairmont greenbelt in West Seattle. It was kind of a birdy moment as the
neighborhood birds discovered the two feeders I put up yesterday so the
resident flock of Band-tailed Pigeons continuted coming in and chasing off
the jays while the chickadees, Song Sparrows and nuthatches kept diving in
and out. A bright male Wilson's Warbler came in to check out the commotion,
either a migrant passing through or possibly the one that stayed the summer.
A Western Tanager began calling, then perched with a large bright red berry
of some sort, do they eat rose hips? Also, a Townsend's Warbler belted out
one phrase of its song but stayed hidden otherwise.
