Although the 22 of us got showered upon twice while on our journey around
the Eagles Pride Golf Course, we did manage to see 31 species (OK - two were
"taxa" per eBird protocol). We would have gotten another warbler, but we
could NOT get a good (let alone definitive) view of one that could have been
an Orange-crowned or maybe a Common Yellowthroat. We expected some seasonal
sparrows to show up, and we weren't disappointed with both FOX and
GOLDEN-CROWNED found soon after we started. Quite a few WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROWS, mostly birds-of-the-year were also located. A late flock of
BAND-TAILED PIGEONS flew over the golf driving range area as we were getting
ready to leave. The only swallows were VIOLET-GREEN. Several mixed-species
flocks (chickadees and kinglets) were found along the route. A GREAT BLUE
HERON -- not a species we find often -- has been hanging around the pond at
the 12th hole, and it was there as expected. This was one of the few times
we had to change our route because of a golf tournament - we elected to
bypass Hodge Lake (14th hole side of it) to ensure we didn't interfere with
the folks out hitting the white pellet.
