Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 8. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
The three BARNACLE GEESE continue at Pacific City. A BAR-TAILED GODWIT and
an HUDSONIAN GODWIT are among a flock of MARBLED GODWITS now being seen at
Ilwaco Washington. On October 1 two DICKCISSELS were at Cape Blanco.
An influx of MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES into western Oregon during the week brought
birds to Yaquina Head, North Bend, Silverton, and Sutherlin. CHESTNUT-BACKED
CHICKADEES are also on the move, especially along coast. A movement of
AMERICAN WIGEON brought EURASIAN WIGEON to Coos Bay, Nehalem Bay, Finley
NWR, and Sutherlin. TROPICAL KINGBIRDS are now being seen along the coast.
On October 1 a SNOWY EGRET and over 300 ELEGANT TERNS were at Gold Beach. A
BOBOLINK and 12 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen October 4 at the South Jetty of
the Siuslaw River. A LARK SPARROW was at the North Jetty of Yaquina Bay
October 5. At the South Jetty of the Columbia River October 4 were three
LAPLAND LONGSPURS and a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER. Up to 1500 BROWN PELICANS
were there October 6.
On October 5 a BRANT was among a large flock of Cackling geese at Dawson
Park in Hillsboro. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was at the Philomath Sewage Ponds
