Tweets,

Today 26 of us had an interesting day at Nisqually. It was 50 degrees and damp when we started and didn't change much except the breeze picked up later in the day. We had a 10.2 high tide at 2:25 PM so lots of mud in the reclamation area.

Doug and Donna saw 5 WHIMBRAL just inside the entrance gate early that the rest of us missed, and some of the folks saw a WILSON'S PHALAROPE inside the new dike. The only other shorebirds seen were some LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS out behind the twin barns.

Since the weed eaters were going in the parking lot we got out onto the refuge quickly but did manage to see YELLOW, WILSON'S, AND ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS. Unlike last week when WARBLING VIREOS were everywhere we didn't see or hear one today.

First of the year birds I saw included SWAINSON'S THRUSH, YELLOWHEADED BLACKBIRDS, BLUE-WINGED TEAL, and CEDAR WAXWINGS.

For the day I had 52 species and now have 108 for the year. Mammals seen were COTTONTAILED RABBIT, EASTERN GRAY SQUIRREL, BLACK-TAILED DEER, HARBOR SEAL, and MUSKRAT.

Until next week....
