Some good birds have been seen in Edmonds during March. A code 5 (fewer than 5 records) sighting by Dennis Paulson was a Black Oystercatcher on the waterfront March 18th. I mention Dennis because he had a previous Edmonds sighting of two Black Oystercatchers about 15 years ago.
We had one code 4 (rare, 5+ records) sighting: Mourning Dove. Code 3 (harder to find but usually seen annually) sightings included 5 Northern Pintails on the waterfront, a Turkey Vulture over the Edmonds Bowl, and a Northern Harrier over Pine Ridge Park. There have also been continued sightings of the Green-winged Teal, Eurasian subspecies, at the marsh. A first-of-year Savannah Sparrow (code 2) was seen near the marsh in mid-March.
The number of Brants on the waterfront is building as they approach the time of their northward migration. I counted approximately 350 a couple of days ago.
We are up to 106 species for the year.
