Several pairs of Evening Grosbeaks have been visiting my feeder over the
past two weeks. It is nice to see these colorful birds coming back year
after year.
I live in a forested urban area in south Everett, yet I still get about 25
Band-tailed Pigeons each day along with Chestnut Backed Chickadees, Dark
Eyed Junco, Northern Flicker, Hairy and Downy woodpeckers, Red-breasted
Nuthatch, SpottedTowhee, Stellar Jay, the occasional Brown Creeper (on the
trees), Pileated Woodpecker, and Yellow throated Warblers, and Pine Siskin.
No house sparrows or starlings even though my back fence backs up to a DR
Horton huge multi blocks development with no trees. And the best sightings
this year: the Cooper's Hawk who took a small bird off my feeder right in
front of me and another who came and sat over the feeder for many minutes.
Then the great horned owl that spent part of a night calling from a tree
just outside my bedroom window. Nice to see the barred owls have not taken
all of them out.
