Thank you, Stefan, for your note. This may be a possibility for what I
heard last night - juvenile Great Horned Owl. I will keep listening!

Hi Joan,

Could possibly be an immature Great Horned Owl as well. This is when they
are upset that nobody is feeding them any more. Just something to consider

Subject: [Tweeters] Possible barn owl(s) in West Seattle

Hi Tweets,

While I was trying to fall asleep last night, I heard a kind of hissing
call. After hearing it a few more times, I jumped up and went to my open
sliding door. It was just after midnight. It was nice and quiet outside for
a change - no train or plane noise. I heard the hissing several times over
a period of about ten minutes. The sound seemed to come from some trees
very close by. I watched for any movements, but saw none. I had never heard
a barn owl but it was the first and only thing that I thought it could be.
I think there may have been two. I live next to Camp Long.

I did see a barn owl once at Discovery Park, but am not aware of sightings
near Camp Long. It was pretty exciting to listen to! Wish I could have
recorded it.
