Finally, a respite from the torrid Seattle summer. Stayed in the low 60s all morning with complete overcast and delightful breezes. But, the birds seemed subdued today except for the Towhees and Goldfinches sounding off everywhere. With breeding mostly down, we are in the summer doldrums; not much new and low numbers.

Pied-billed Grebe - 5 birds; a pair of adults plus two young were in the Dead End Pond; another bird in Promontory Pond
Cooper’s Hawk - saw both adults, separately, out hunting, one was carrying prey; 3 fledglings were branching near the nest

Bald Eagle - 1 adult, 1 2nd year
Ring-billed Gull - 3 on platform, first seen since early April
Caspian Tern - calling from on high
Vaux’s Swift - at least 4 or 5
Rufous Hummingbird - 1 female visiting flowers at south end
Western Wood-Peweee - 1
Pacific-slope Flycatcher - 1
Spotted Towhee - couple dozen; 1 was feeding juvenile BH Cowbird
Bullock’s Oriole - a pair flying between shoreline shrubbery and trees along N-S walkway

For the day, 42 species
