I spent this morning to early afternoon birding two different sections of the Willipa Hills Trail here in Lewis County. The first section is accessed at the end of Hillburger Rd where I saw 30 species of birds, 25 of them just at the parking area. Here is the list.
American Wigeon 25
Mallard 6
Northern Shoveler 10
Green-winged Teal 1
Ring-necked Duck 8
Bufflehead 2
Common Goldeneye 1
Pied-billed Grebe 3
Double-crested Cormorant 1
Great Blue Heron 1
Northern Harrier 1
Red-tailed Hawk 1
American Coot 6
Killdeer 1
American Kestrel 1
Merlin 1
Steller's Jay 1
Western Scrub-Jay 5
Black-capped Chickadee 4
Bewick's Wren 2
American Robin X
European Starling X
Spotted Towhee 5
Fox Sparrow 2
White-crowned Sparrow 6
Golden-crowned Sparrow X
Dark-eyed Junco X
Red-winged Blackbird X
House Finch 2
American Goldfinch 3

The second access is at Dieckman Rd. Here I got 25 species, adding these new for the day.
Cackling Goose X
Canada Goose X
Mourning Dove 4
Northern Flicker 1
American Crow X
Common Raven 4
Red-breasted Nuthatch 1
Marsh Wren 3
Lincoln's Sparrow 1
Purple Finch 7

After birding the trail sections, I went over to Pleasant Valley where I scoped a flock of swans at the corner of Twin Oaks Rd. and Pleasant Valley Rd. There were 21 TUNDRA and 5 TRUMPETERS. Lucky the flock was fairly close for scoping which made it easy to i.d. these.
