Hi Tweets,

Barbara and I were joined by six enthusiastic birders last Saturday,
January 10th, for a Seattle Audubon field trip on the West Seattle
waterfront. We had decent viewing conditions early, but later in the
morning we got misty weather with a moderate wind from the southwest; temps
were in the mid 40s.

The highlights were a Peregrine Falcon harassing a band of Starlings, a
large mixed flock of Surfbirds and Black Turnstones near Duwamish Head, and
a lone Common Murre at Me-Kwa-Mooks. But the most exciting viewing of the
morning was a pod of about 8 Orcas across the Sound near the south end of
Bainbridge Island. We had excellent scope views of them from Constellation
Park near Alki Point. We first saw the large dorsal fins, then watched as
they rolled over, struck the water with their tails, and finally threw
themselves out of the water to crash back with huge splashes. What a show!

Good Birding!
