Today 36 of us had a chilly, damp walk at Nisqually. We had lingering fog most of the morning that kept things pretty chilly. There was a 6.6 low tide at 1:33.

Nothing really unusual, except a WILSON'S SNIPE at the visitor center as we finished the walk. Michael, the refuge volunteer coordinator had spotted the bird roosting in the grass and had a scope set up on it. I certainly never would have found it there.

We had upwards of 25 BALD EAGLES through out the refuge and Shep reported a BARN OWL hunting the fields when he arrived at 7:00.

We did pick us a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER along the river side as well as a DOWNEY WOODPECKER.

GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS were all over and we did see SONG and FOX SPARROWS as well as TOWHEES.

Waterfowl were scattered throughout the refuge and we did see our SNOW GOOSE with its entourage of 8 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

For the day I saw 43 species. The only mammal I saw was a MINK near the beaver dam along the Nisqually side.

Until next week.....
