Seen in Cayo Culebra, Ascension Bay, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Approaching Cayo Culebra Island, returning from a day of fishing we saw what appeared to be a fairly large bird struggling on the water.
Thinking it might be caught in old fishing line, we slowed and approached to see if we could free it.
Last year we had freed a Magnificient Frigatebird from entanglement in the same general location.

As we approached, it became apparent that what we were witnessing was a bird of prey that had just downed what appears to be a Tri-colored Heron.
The water was 6-8 feet deep here ( too deep to wade) so it must have knocked it out of the sky just prior to our arrival. There was a large number of blue-gray feathers floating on the water.
As we neared, the predator took off, leaving the then dead Heron floating face down.

Turned out to be what I believe is a Pomarine Jaeger.
