[Tweeters] Ocean Shores

Hey Tweets...In running errands today between hail/rain showers, I stopped
at the library and watched in amazement as about 50 to 75 Marbled Godwits
lifted off the golf course right across the street, wheeled around next to
the golf cart bridge and path, then resettled in pretty much the same spot.
Does anyone know what they are feeding on in the grass? Crane Fly larvae
maybe?

You may have seen the TV news piece on the Velella velella now inundating
the beaches; today was the first time I have noticed the gulls carefully
picking through the piles to eat only the freshest.

And speaking of gulls, they are concentrating in large numbers at the
junction of the creeks and runoffs and the ocean.

Today was the last day to legally drive the entire beach from the North
Jetty to just short of Conner Creek, so I drove as much of it as I felt
safe doing so (deep sand this year). I was able to find three immature (2nd
yr) bald eagles, two adults, eight ravens, uncounted numbers of gulls and
crows, a lone whimbrel just north of the Quinault Resort, and.....two FOY
Caspian Terns.
