[Tweeters] Othello Burrowing Owl

After hearing the dismal news about the lack of burrowing owls during the Sandhill Crane Festival I was hoping for the best when I looked for them on Thursday. I did find one by a nest hole east of Othello (sorry, those of you that know the area will know where to find it). The area it was has been used for at least the past 12 years I've been going over there. Maybe they just weren't back yet for the festival.

The area is pretty birdy right now. Great Egrets are back but found no pelicans. Tons of sandhill cranes and geese were along Corfu Rd Thursday evening. At least 2,000 plus Canada Geese were at Royal Lake along with at lease 20 snow geese. Blackbirds were pretty scarce by the grain elevators north of Othello so we didn't see the tri-colored blackbirds. Yellow-headed blackbirds are just coming in so a few more days should bring in the usual cacophony.

Birder's Corner had at least 21 black-necked stilts. A long Avocet was at the County Line ponds.

Happy birding.
