> Karen and I spent 18 days from late October to mid-November birding the central California coast. We met several people interested in birds including a young boy who lagged behind his family walking around a lake and said to us "Isn't it fun to see the ducks!" and a couple that wanted to know how you could tell the difference between a Turkey Vulture and a California Condor. The husband surmised that it was by the spirit of the bird. Some of our favorite birds that we were able to photo included...

> We went on an excellent bird walk led by Paul Fenwick of the Monterey Audubon Society. Paul is a Salinas fireman who has been birding since he was 12. On another day we birded with Paul and his father immediately after Paul completed a 48 hour shift. He was an invaluable resource for birding in the Monterey area, an excellent teacher and a pleasant companion.
