Hi Tweets,

Led a field trip for my Tahoma Audubon Beginning Bird class this Saturday morning and had a few nice sightings close to home, for those not able to make the big trip out to Neah Bay.

Titlow Beach is one of the original ferry landings before the building of the Narrows Bridge and has a nice park and pilings that attract a lot of birds. That coupled with one pond that is tidally influenced, one completely fresh water and a wood lot makes for a nice diversity of birds. There is also a new restroom facility with hot water - quite an upgrade from the port-a-potty. There is also a good fish & chips place here right on the water, Steamers, or The Beach Tavern, depending on your inclination.

The pilings had:
HEERMAN'S GULLS - 3 second winter birds
Surf Scoters
Pigeon Guillemots
Cormorants - Double-crested, Pelagic & Brandt's side by side

The ponds had:
EURASIAN WIGEONS - 1 adult male, 1 immature male
American wigeons
Wood Duck - unusual at this location
Hooded Mergansers - strutting their stuff

The wood lot:
VARIED THRUSHES- with robins feeding on Madrone berries

Good birding,
