Today while taking a walk with my mother and sister at Beard's Hollow on
the Long Beach Peninsula I was lucky to find a Black-and-white Warbler.
It was working over the branches and trunks of some alders about 50 feet
from the trail. It had very crisp black and white streaks on its head
and back. The white supercilium extended from the bill and the black
auriculars and facial pattern were quite striking. It was first seen
about 12:45 and I watched it for much of 10 minutes, before I had to
leave. I came back again about 1:40 and refound the bird. I got glimpses
for about 10 minutes and then didn't see it again. The bird was seen on
the right side of the trail to the beach, just past the large stone that
is the 2 mile marker. The two miles must be from Ilwaco, since the spot
was shorter than a five minute walk from the parking lot.
