Hi Tweeters,

At about 11:40 this morning (5/4/14) while birding the Woodland Bottoms I
turned from the Lewis River onto Kuhnis Road. A raptor with a slight
dihedral and a long tail came over the trees containing the heronry and was
headed for me. I pulled over and jumped out in time for the SWAINSON'S HAWK
to go directly overhead and continue over the railroad and out of sight.
Turning around and going under the railroad at the river, I soon relocated
the hawk as it gained altitude and crossed the Lewis into Clark County
where it perched in a tree on a ridge top just as a squall decided to dump
on us. My experience lasted 5 minutes at most and I have no idea if the
bird is still around or more likely moved on. I put details of the bird in
my eBird report.
