Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday March 6. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

The Coos Bay PAINTED BUNTING, Ankeny NWR YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, and
LaGrande RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER were reported during the week.

The first RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD report for the Portland area was on February
27. Many migrant LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES, SAY¹S PHOEBES, and WESTERN BLUEBIRDS
were reported east of the Cascades, while ROBINS swarmed over Western
Oregon.

On March 3 a SAY¹S PHOEBE was at Tenmile Creek in northern Coos County. An
immature male BULLOCK¹S ORIOLE was at a Seaside feeder February 26. A small
flock of RED CROSSBILLS was seen March 1 near Timber.

On February 28 a SAY¹S PHOEBE and a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE were at the Portland
Airport. Another SAY¹S PHOEBE was at nearby Steigerwald NWR March 5. On
March 4 a WESTERN BLUEBIRD was at Oaks Bottom in Southeast Portland. The
next day two MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were at Powell Butte Park in Gresham. On
March 3 two CASPIAN TERNS were along the Columbia River at St. Helens. Five
possible CASPIANS were reported March 2 at Baskett Slough NWR.

About 300 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS and 4000 DUNLIN were near Halsey February
28. On March 1, 14 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On February 28 a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was reported at a Madras feeder.
