At noon, I was returning to Olympia from Montesano, and took the Brady Loop to see what was in the area.

I scoped a flock of geese and Trumpeter Swans across from WDFW Fishing Access - at 46.97353 -123.53144. At the far end of the grass field, about 50 m west of plowed field, was a tall, thin, long-legged, long-necked, pale gray bird with "bustle" tail. Reddish patch at eye, and had lighter cheeks and chin. Holy Cow! It's a Sandhill!

I could not see any reddish on back or wings, so presume this to be an adult bird. Judging by size of the bird as compared to Dusky Canada geese nearby, this was a "Lesser".

Cheers,
Jon. Anderson
